Aloha, Runner friend!

If you love stories, you are in the right place. I write about grief, glory, running, food, travel and more. I hope these words inspire you to chase after God’s glory in your life today!

Are you a runner or walker?

We would love to connect with you. Running is one of our passions as a couple and family.

I started running when I was in elementary school with my dad. We ran 5k and 10k races together. Eventually, I joined the Track & Field team because of encouragement from my soccer coach. I fell in love with the sport and specialized in hurdles, 400 meters and relays.

I ran my first half and full marathons with my late husband Ericlee Gilmore, who was also a Track & Field athlete. We coached together for 9 years at Fresno Christian Schools in California.

Today, I most enjoy trail running in the mountains near our home or on any trail with a view of the ocean. Our daughters also enjoy running, competing in sprints, hurdles and 5ks and half marathons.

My husband Shawn Young is a life-long runner and triathlete who has been coaching athletes of all ages for more than 20 years. He began his coaching career at a middle school in Dixon, CA, and has helped coach cross-country and track teams at the elementary, high school, and junior college levels as well.

As an assistant cross-country coach at Fresno City College, he helped guide student athletes at his alma mater where he competed. He ran Track & Field at University of California, Davis. He was also involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a leader during college.

Shawn was born and raised in Fresno, California, but has lived throughout California and spent nearly a decade in Maryland. He has run dozens of marathons and has completed 6 IRONMAN triathlons. He is a personal running and triathlon coach with a primary focus on marathon and IRONMAN athletes. He is also a sought-after announcer for local races.

In this season of life, I am putting in my miles mostly on the trails and on the treadmill at my local gym, Orange Theory. I love running with friends or chasing the finish line at a new destination race.

Running is more than a hobby for us. Together Shawn and I have coached cross-country and Track & Field at Kepler Neighborhood School, where our daughters attended. We currently coach Track & Field at Fresno Christian High School. We also coached the Remember Haiti Marathon fundraiser team for 10 years, raising money and awareness for projects in Haiti through a partnership with the non-profit organization, Haiti Gospel Outreach. My late husband Ericlee Gilmore and I started this non-profit organization connecting resources to Haiti in 2010. I have also participated in the World Vision Team, raising money for clean water around the globe by running.

As you can probably tell, we are wild about running. We are especially excited about a book we wrote together just for runners and walkers. Walk, Run, Soar is a 52-week devotional and training journal, which includes coaching tips, workout plans and more to help you train your body, mind and soul to run for His glory.
